Its product candidate, EXPAREL (bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension) provides postsurgical analgesia and reduces the consumption of opioid medications. EXPAREL consists of bupivacaine, an amide-type local anesthetic, encapsulated in DepoFoam, an extended-release drug delivery technology, that delivers bupivacaine over time for extended analgesia. Its other product candidate, the iovera system is a non-opioid handheld cryoanalgesia device used to produce precise, controlled doses of cold temperature only to targeted nerves. The iovera system is complementary to EXPAREL as a non-opioid therapy that alleviates pain using a non-pharmacological nerve block to disrupt pain signals being transmitted to the brain from the site of injury or surgery.
